The COVID-19 situation may have put a damper on tourism, but it hasn’t stopped the creative minds at Explore Pine Bluff from making the city’s rich history accessible to anyone with a smart phone or digital device.
ExplorePineBluff.com now features dozens of videos and audio clips on a wide variety of historical subjects, including music history, blues history, entertainment, and more.
According to Sheri Storie, Executive Director of the Pine Bluff Advertising & Promotion Commission, the addition of digital historical products to ExplorePineBluff.com had been in the works long before COVID-19 hit. “We’ve been planning to launch these historical clips for more than a year,” Sheri said. “As it turns out, they’re perfect entertainment for people sheltering in place during the pandemic.”
Four digital products are currently live on ExplorePineBluff.com.
One is the Freedom & Blues Experience: A Delta Music and Culture Encounter features the WA&P Radio Show, a collection of 26 videos relating to famous artists and musicians with Pine Bluff and Jefferson County roots. View it here.
The second is the Delta Civil Rights Legacy Trail, a digital brochure with 22 videos relating to Pine Bluff’s deep connections to our nation’s Civil Rights movement. View it here.
Third, visitors to ExplorePineBluff.com can read about the incredible stories of Pine Bluff’s transformational past on the website’s cultural and history blog page. View it here.
Finally, visitors to the website can view performances from the first ever Pine Bluff Virtual Blues and Soul Summer Sets. This virtual music series aired every second and fourth Thursday and Friday from June through August. Thursday evenings were dedicated to the best in Blues and Southern Soul deejaying, and Friday evenings featured performances from artists with Pine Bluff and Delta roots. Check out the schedule and view past performances.
More digital historical products are slated to be added to ExplorePineBluff.com in the coming months, including Delta Cinema World, a collection of videos featuring Pine Bluff’s contribution to cinema and theater, the Delta Rhythm & Bayous Highway Spotify Playlist, and the Delta Rhythm & Bayous Highway Podcast featuring stories about the zany, tragic, and compelling world of the towns on the Delta Rhythm & Bayous Highway. Also planned is an in-depth video docu-series relaying incredible, mostly untold Civil Rights and freedom stories. Also in the works is a virtual museum which will provide even more in-depth coverage of Pine Bluff’s connection to Civil Rights history, as well as blues, gospel and cinema history.
“Until it’s safe to travel again, Explore Pine Bluff is committed to satisfying your wanderlust by offering powerful and entertaining online experiences,” added Sheri.
